Studies and exams are an essential part of life, as gaining knowledge is not only necessary to excel in academics and further in career life, but also to become more informed in personal, social, and spiritual matters to better prepare for Allah’s judgment in the afterlife.

That said, when facing hardships as a student, turn to Allah for help, for He is All-Knowing. Islam is a beautiful religion and has solutions for any problem you face in your life. If one of those problems is the headache and worry of burdening studies and upcoming examinations, there are various Duas (supplications) for you to find mental peace and renewed energy, as well as stay hopeful.

Duas For Educational Ease & Increasing Knowledge

My Lord! Increase me in knowledge. [20:114]

This is an example of a common dua for students, for the ultimate goal of going to school or college is not just to gain great marks but also to end up with more knowledge overall. After all, gaining knowledge is something our religion has encouraged. The very first verse of the Quran revealed our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) being “Read! In the name of your Lord, Who has created.” [96:1]

There are various duas for succeeding in gaining knowledge and finding ease in academics:

When Starting Any Study Task…

“I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.”

“In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful”

Let’s start with the most basic verses one can recite to ensure that whatever they do goes in their favor—be it homework, preparation for an exam, or an interview for admission to university. When you will away the evils and ask for protection from Allah, followed by praising Allah by reciting Bismillah, the challenge ahead of you starts on a great note.

Of course, like any dua, belief is key to gaining the maximum virtue. By maintaining faith that Allah is with you, helping you, and guiding you, the impact of Auzubillah and Bismillah is considerably remarkable.

For Eliminating Stress Of Exams…

My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech. [20:25-28]

This dua has an incredible effect on students who find it difficult to express their knowledge in their exams due to nervousness or stress or a psychological reason for being unable to express themselves well. This is the dua of Prophet Musa (AS), who had a speech impediment and struggled to talk well. The dua contains shifa (healing) and is perfect to counter the struggle to study properly.

The right way to recite this dua is to make wudu (ablution), sit in a quiet corner, and start with reciting tasbeeh (Subhanallah), then tahleel (Alhumdullilah), followed by takbir (Allahu Akbar), and finally the verse given above.

For Increase In Beneficial Knowledge…

“O Allah, benefit me by that which You have taught me, and teach me that which will benefit me, and increase my knowledge.”

For students searching for a dua related to an increase in knowledge, this verse had a profound effect on one’s awareness. This dua is incredibly useful for any stage of academic life, as it makes one more informed.

However, it should be noted that one should recite this dua purely for Allah’s sake and with good intentions, not to benefit from it for material purposes and reputation. A truly enlightening dua, asked from Allah Almighty with love and humility, is the one that softens the hearts.

For Anxiety & Misery Of Studies…

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being oppressed by men.”

If you feel a sense of doom coming on due to an exceptionally difficult exam or because you are anxious about the results of an exam you are sure did not go well, then this is the dua for you. Similarly, parents can also recite this dua for children who easily become anxious before or after examinations or some other academic milestone.

As reported by Hazrat Anas ibn Malik, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) used to recite this dua whenever something upset him. Adding this verse to your supplication to Allah for success in studies can have a significant impact.

For Ease In Learning…

“Oh Allah! Nothing is easy except what you have made easy. If you wish, you can make the difficult easy.”

This verse from the Quran is also a dua for learning, in which the one making the dua praises Allah as the One who has the power to expand one’s capability to learn, and pleads to make it happen.

As humans, our brains have limited capacity for storing information and grasping concepts. Affected by the stress of studies and exams, this capacity can feel more limited. By seeking out Allah’s blessing while studying, one can conquer the roadblocks of gaining knowledge. The dua given above is brief and simple and can be easily recited several times while learning.
