Origins Of Surah Alam Nashrah

Surah Alam Nashrah was revealed to our beloved Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in a time of despair. The spread of Islam in the early years of Prophethood was incredibly challenging for the last Messenger of Allah. He faced constant rejection from most people around him, including his own relatives and the people who once respected him.

This was when Allah revealed Surah Alam Nashrah along with Surah Duha—as confirmed by Abdullah bin Abbas (R.A). Allah showers his blessing on the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in both Surahs and comforts him.

Lessons In Surah Alam Nashrah

Surah Alam Nashrah was not only revealed to comfort Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in his time of trial but bears general lessons and blessings of comfort and good tidings for anyone who recites and learns it. The Surah features three parts: In the first part, Allah Almighty grants three blessings to Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him). The first is expanding his chest, a metaphor for relieving him of his stress. The second blessing is eliminating his burdens, and the third is praising him. This Surah is a source of these very three blessings for anyone who reads it, which is why it is aptly named the Surah of Solace. The second part assures that challenges are followed by rewards. “So, surely with hardship comes ease” (Quran 94:5) This verse from the Quran is well-known by believers, often read as a tasbeeh (a repeated phrase for blessing). The second part of Surah Alam Nashrah is a source of comfort for those who go through constant, seemingly endless worries. Allah promises an end to difficulties and satisfied tidings at the end of those. The third part of Surah Alam Nashrah commands believers to stand for prayer and ask for ease in hardships from Allah. In this part, Allah tells mankind to maintain their faith in Him and trust that He is the one who can provide true relief. Hardships are a part of this life, and Allah is with us. Surah Alam Nashrah is nothing short of a miracle when it comes to ending troubles and gaining good tidings. But one should have true belief in Allah’s authority and plan and the belief that everything happens for the best.

Maintaining One’s Composure

Seek Refuge For Hereafter

Hardships are often tests by Allah. The Day of Judgment is the ultimate ending for all, and a part of the preparation for that end is the difficulties put before us. How we come out at the end of each trial contributes to the scale by which our destination, Heaven or Hell, will be decided.
