We face stressful situations every day, some small and easily solvable, others quite challenging and requiring religious intervention. The beauty of the Quran is that it has solutions for all kinds of troubles, and when you raise your hands in supplication to wish away your stress, reciting Surah Alam Nashrah alongside is one of the best things you can do.
Also known as Surah Alam Nashrah and Surah Al-Sharh, this Surah is the Holy Quran’s 94th chapter, a Makkan Surah in the 30th Para comprising 8 verses. The name of the Surah translates to “comfort” or “solace”.
Surah Alam Nashrah was revealed to our beloved Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in a time of despair. The spread of Islam in the early years of Prophethood was incredibly challenging for the last Messenger of Allah. He faced constant rejection from most people around him, including his own relatives and the people who once respected him.
This was when Allah revealed Surah Alam Nashrah along with Surah Duha—as confirmed by Abdullah bin Abbas (R.A). Allah showers his blessing on the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in both Surahs and comforts him.
One of the shortest Surahs in the Holy Book, Surah Alam Nashrah bears significant morals and has a valuable impact on the life of one who recites and learns it with complete faith and dedication. It has a plethora of benefits:

The biggest challenge in the face of hardship is to stick to good principles. Anger, rage, jealousy, and despair are all sins—and these come forth easily when we face distressing situations. By reminding us that Allah is with us, the Surah motivates us to remain good despite the extremity of dire situations.
The Surah is also beneficial for people who have a constant habit of cursing. Reciting the Surah 41 times and blowing it onto water drunk by the person in question can help get rid of poor language and behavior.
(Majmooa Wazaif p173)
Hardships are often tests by Allah. The Day of Judgment is the ultimate ending for all, and a part of the preparation for that end is the difficulties put before us. How we come out at the end of each trial contributes to the scale by which our destination, Heaven or Hell, will be decided. Therefore, Surah Alam Nashrah is a way for us to seek refuge in Allah for the difficulties of both this life and the Hereafter as well.
In addition to the above-mentioned gains, recitation of Surah Alam Nashrah also helps with:
There are many virtues of reciting Surah Alam Nashrah.
The Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said: “One who recites Surah Inshirah (Surah Alam Nashrah) is similar to the one who has met Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), and if in a state of grief, Allah will remove his sorrows.” (Majma’ al-Bayan, vol. 10, p. 387)
By reciting the verses of Surah Alam Nashrah in troubling times, one’s hardships are also associated with those who fight in the way of Allah, and their blessings will resemble the martyrs’ rewards.
Additionally, Imam Sadiq (AS) said: “He who repeatedly recites Surah Inshirah during the day and night, all his body parts and will testify in his favor on the Last Day.” (Thawab al-‘Amal, p. 123)
As it is believed that Surah Alam Nashrah was revealed alongside (soon after) Surah Duha, both have to be recited together if recited after Surah Fatihah during prayers. Most scholars consider Surah Inshirah (Surah Alam Nashrah) and Duha as one complete Surah together.
